We are The Children's Studio Kindergarteners. Some of us turned six just when school started up, but some of us wouldn't have a birthday until the summer, so we all had a special birthday celebration for those kids at the end of the year.
We all became friends very fast. In our Kindergarten class, we each have our own desk with our name on it. On the first day of school, Miss Rae Ann had a crayon box sitting on top of each desk with new crayons, scissors, a pencil, and a glue stick in each one. On top of the crayon box was a shiny apple that we could eat at any time during the day! Each morning, we had to sign our names in the Sign In Book, turn our picture over, and make a choice from our Kindergarten Choice Board.
We brought a lunch and a morning snack every day. We are responsible for cleaning and washing our own areas after we eat. We have other responsibilities, too. Each week, each one of us has a special job to do. It might be the Calendar Person or the Line Leader, or you might get Watering the Plants or Holding the Flag. Everyone loved being the Bell Ringer.
Each morning during Morning Meeting, we sang "Good Morning To You" and did the calendar. Sometimes we made a special chain to help us mark a special day. One of our favorites was the 100-Day Celebration. We each had to bring in a collection of 100 things. We even made a snack where we picked 10 things from 10 bowls (that's 100!) and mixed them together. Yum. We also had a 100 things Obstacle Course.
Every day was fun and busy. We learned a lot, too. We read all kinds of stories: Fairytales, Aesop's Fables, Mother Goose Rhymes, and some really good books for kids just our age. We learned about the alphabet, we learned "sight words," and we made little books that we could really read! It was hard work, but everyone did it.
We loved MathLand, too. There were boxes filled with linkercubes, rainbow tiles, and tableblocks. There were even teddybears and teddybear stamps. Lots of times we got to work in teams to try to build certain things or to do a special project. We each had our own workbook and that was cool, too.
We all loved Science and we did all kinds of science experiments and nature things. We went on a nature hike, did experiments with snow, and hatched real butterflies in our Butterfly Pavillion! We even had our own Science Journals to keep track of all that was happening. Miss Julie taught us World Music once a week. She brought in all kinds of instruments from different countries and taught us dances to go with the different and curious rhythms.
Our Kindergarten year went by too fast. We learned a lot and we made so many good friends. We hate to leave, but we can't stay Kindergartners forever . . . there's a new batch coming in and we even met them on our Buddy Day! We each had a special buddy that we showed around and did a little project with. We ate watermelon together, too. We sang a few songs with Miss Rae Ann and her guitar and then it was time to go. I hope my buddy gets my desk next year.
